SYDNEY — Judique native Amy Cotton has been ousted from the Olympics.

Cotton was eliminated today after losing her first-round judo bout in the under-78 kilogram class to reigning world champion Audrey Tcheumeo of France. Tcheumeo was the second seed in the tournament.

Cotton, 32, is the oldest member of the Canadian judo team.

The London Games are the second Olympics for Cotton after finishing in ninth place at the 2004 Games in Athens. She didn't qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Cotton claimed gold at the Moscow Judo Grand Slam in May, scoring a Waza-ari and a Yuko in the final bout against No. 7-ranked Lkhamdegd Purevjargal of Mongolia.
