Gingras still leads men’s amateur, locals make the cut

BELL BAY – Moncton’s Mathieu Gingras carded his second straight sub-par round on Thursday to sit atop the leaderboard at the Nova Scotia men’s amateur golf championship.

Gingras made five birdies over his final 10 holes to shoot 1-under-par-72 for a 36-hole score of 4-under 140.

Gingras, who shot 3-under 69 on Wednesday, leads Jody Swim of River Hills (72-70-142) by two strokes heading into today’s third round at the 72-hole tournament.

Brightwood’s Matt Gallupe (71-73-144) is third, while Ken-Wo’s Steven Ward (73-72-145) is next, followed by Ashburn’s Glenn Robinson (76-70-146) and Sean Stuart (69-77-146) and Digby’s Eric Locke.

Truro’s Pat MacCormack (79-78-157) is tied for 24th, while clubmate Jeff Van Wart (84-80-164) also made the weekend cut.

Truro players who missed the cut include John Archibald, Tim Hollett, David Loughead and James Bryson.

Truro’s Chris Topshee, who plays out of Oakfield, will also play on the weekend after shooting 2-over 74 yesterday for a 155 total.
