TRURO - Drew Erskine of the Truro Lions established a new Nova Scotia midget boys hammer throw record at the second Jump Start Athletics throws series event on Sunday in Port Williams, Kings County.

Erskine's throw of 55.30 metres clipped the old mark of 54.72, which Erskine set a week earlier in the series opener.

Sarah Colborne also broke her own youth discus mark set last week with a throw of 41.14m, beating the old mark of 41.02m.

Elizabeth MacDonald set a new senior women's hammer mark of 50.57m, breaking the old mark set in 2011 of 50.47m. David Bambrick set a new Nova Scotia Senior para shot-put record of 10.91m, erasing the old mark of 10.63m set in 2011.

The next meet in the series is July 7 in Port Williams.
