Bearcats topped by Wildcats in senior baseball

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats suffered a 9-1 loss to the Kentville Wildcats Tuesday at the TAAC Grounds in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League.

The result leaves the Bearcats last in the five-team league with a 1-7 record while Kentville sits atop the standings at 5-1.

After opening a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Wildcats sealed the win with five runs in the sixth.

Brandon Malally was tagged with the loss and Josh Fushtey came on in relief in the sixth  Mike Tobin doubled and Tony Stewart pounded out a pair of singles.

Kevin Daurie picked up the victory while Codey Shrieder ripped a pair of doubles and a single.

Meanwhile, the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry edged the Halifax Pelham Canadians 3-2.

Truro resident and former Bearcat Jason Smith started on the mound for Dartmouth and pitched 4 2/3 innings before he was replaced by Craig Sinyard, who picked up the win. The losing pitcher was former Bearcat Craig Field.

Greg West led the Dry with a single, double and RBI, while Chris Head homered.
