TRURO - The Truro Bearcats have locked up Debert resident Denver Lynds.
The 16-year-old forward was announced Friday as Truro's territorial pick ahead of this weekend's Maritime Junior Hockey League draft in Yarmouth.
Lynds, five-foot-10, 155-pounds, played last season for the Pictou County Weeks major midgets and recorded 34 points (18G, 16A) in 29 regular season contests. He added three goals and a pair of assists in nine playoff games.
Each team is allotted two territorial picks ahead of the draft, however, Truro elected to use just one so the squad could pick in the draft's fourth round. The Bearcats had traded their initial fourth-round slot earlier this season.
The Bearcats pick eighth in each round by virtue of finishing fourth overall last season at 29-20-1-2. Truro also holds an extra pick in the third round. The draft, which gets underway at 1:15 p.m., can be followed live on the league's website.
