TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars are confident waiting an extra week to start their season will play into their hands.
The Cougars were supposed to open their Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Football League campaign last Friday in Bedford against the C.P. Allen Cheetahs. But due to the stifling heat, the contest was called off.
The Cougars have spent the time since preparing for tomorrow's 4 p.m. contest against the Lockview Dragons and quarterback Peter Millman thinks the extra week will only help his team.
"Oh for sure," he said. "If gave a lot of the guys some more time to get their head around things and introduce a few new things so overall I think we'll be better prepared for the game this week."
The Cougars even used that off day last Friday to fine tune some things and defensive co-ordinator Scott Cameron came up with an inventive way to keep his players cool.
"The whole team was really disappointed but (Cameron) turned the sprinklers on and we practiced under them so it was a great practice," Millman laughed.
The six-foot-three, 197-pound pivot said the Cougars are looking to start the season off with a win and feels doing so is important in setting a tone for the team for the rest of the season.
"We want to get the ball rolling and show teams that we're coming for them."
