Elks have rough Day 2 at nationals

CHARLOTTETOWN - The Brookfield Elks' suffered a pair of lopsided blows Monday at the Canadian Senior Men's Fastpitch Championship in Charlottetown.

The Elks finished the day on the short end of a 7-0 loss to Quebec after taking a 10-1 thrashing from 3 Cheers Pub. The setback lower Brookfields record to 2-1 after a 3-2 win over Fredericton Sunday.

Brookfield is back in action today against Owen Sound at 2 p.m. and the defending champion Kitchener Rivershark Twins at 5 p.m.

Catcher Jason Sanford collected the lone Brookfield hit against Quebec while Scott Wagar suffered the loss, surrendering all seven runs on 10 hits over six innings. He also struck out six and allowed two walks.

Greg Garrity was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts.

The Quebec side scored twice in the first and third innings to get control early before adding another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Sanford and Patrick Stewart each had a pair of hits for the Elks against 3 Cheers, while Jeremy Locke and Peter Reimer had one apiece. Locke scored the only Brookfield run and was knocked in by Sanford.

The Newfoundlanders got 10 hits off Randy Frame, who allowed six walks and collected just one strikeout to be tagged with the loss.
