ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A provincial byelection is underway in the eastern Newfoundland and Labrador district of Terra Nova.
The vote was called to replace Conservative Paul Oram who resigned earlier this fall citing health issues and unfair media coverage of his three months as health minister.
Sandy Collins, Oram's executive assistant, is trying to hang on to the seat for the Tories.
Land use planner John Baird is carrying the Liberal banner while Robin Brentnall, a retired member of the Canadian Forces, is the NDP candidate.
Thirty-three polling stations will be open across the district until 8 o'clock local time tonight.
There are currently 42 Tories, four Liberals and one NDP member in the legislature.
