Library opens new chapter
Thumbs up, thumbs down
It is exciting to see demolition work now being done at the former Normal College.
Crews with L and R Construction have been busy during the past couple weeks ripping out walls, stripping the inside down to the brick.
As preparations move forward to transform this historic building into a new state-of-the art Colchester East Hants Regional Library, the public will be given an opportunity to view design plans on April 3.
A fundraising committee will also soon be formed to aid in covering expenses as the library opens a new chapter in the town and county.
We encourage people to become involved in this project to give back to the community in whatever way they can, leaving a legacy for many years to come.
Snow clearing melts budgets
Last week, residents braced for nasty conditions dubbed by some media as a “weather bomb.” While there was some damage to roofs and other property, overall most of Colchester County escaped severe harm.
However, the deep blanket of snow that accumulated and formed drifts several metres high in some cases had many folks digging out for days.
This winter has melted away snow removal budgets in the town, county and province. It has been a tough year on equipment used to clear roads and sidewalks.
Understandably people were frustrated by the condition of town sidewalks 24 hours after the storm, where many were still blocked by high-piles of snow.
It was concerning to see people walking on slippery, snow-covered, high traffic roads as town crews put their snowblowers into use for the first time this winter season.
Let’s hope this is the only time this year they will be needed and spring is now truly here.
Bearcats move on to finals
Congratulations to the Truro Bearcats for completing a four-game sweep of the Valley Wildcats in their Maritime Junior Hockey League Eastlink Division semifinal.
The team will now move on to the EastLink Division final against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers, winners of the other semifinal.
The first match-up of the two teams is Tuesday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
