TRURO - Christian Heritage Party Leader Jim Hnatiuk says Conservative candidate Scott Armstrong is misleading voters regarding the long-gun registry.
Armstrong said in a news release yesterday that a Conservative bill (C-391) passed its first vote in the House of Commons Wednesday night.
Hnatiuk said it is not a Conservative bill but a private members bill. It was introduced by Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner.
"It's interesting that a Tory back-bencher has introduced this private member's bill now, at this stage of this important byelection," Hnatiuk said. "After all, the Tory government has had five years to fulfill its long-standing promise on the long-gun registry. But there has been no action at all from the Conservatives."
The Conservatives came to power in 2006.

When it comes to this gun registry I don't even care if I've been mislead any more. This whole deal has been a trainwreck since before it started and I don't even pay attention to it any longer.
As for one politician questioning the truthfulness of another - I stopped listening to that stuff a long time ago. Educate yourselves on the facts about this and make your own decisions. Don't accept the spoon fed and spun versions of anything like this from any politician. -

A Conservative introduced the Bill and every Conservative voted for it while the other parties overwhelmingly voted against it. I think it's quite clear which Party is behind it and which is not!

Wow - and this makes the headlines?
Who cares who introduced the document. By making it a private members bill, members were not forced to vote with the party line .
Perhams Mr. Hnatiuk isn't aware that the Conservatives are in a minority gov't status and need other MPs to support this bill. Had they introduced it before, the bill would have failed.

................I'm pretty sure it was 2nd reading that the Bill passed, not 1st. In which case BOTH Armstrong and Hnutaik are wrong...and so is the TDN.

I think youre all missing the point here. In the original news release Mr. Armstrong made it sound like a government Billit wasnt. And he finished by saying that he was the only candidate who would continue the fight on this issue. Come on, the long-gun issue is far from over and Jim Hnatiuk has stood against it all along. Hnatiuks news release said, Perhaps Mr. Armstrong forgets that I am the owner of Nova Scotias largest hunting and fishing store, and a hunter myself, having dealt first-hand with the insult of this issue for years. Firearm owners know they can count on me to take their concerns to Ottawa and fight for their rights, Sounds good enough to me!

I wonder if any of those who commented thus far even bothered to read the release as suggested at the end of this news article. You will then see that Hnatiuk wants two retractions, not just one, and the one that matters the most to me is Armstrong's false claim that he's the only one who can guarantee a voite for the banning of the long gun registry, which the news article carefully avoided mentioning completely! With all due respect, sir. The Conservatives have introduced the elimination of the Long Gun Registration on three occasions; I've read it in the papers at least ten times over the last few years. So your statement is incorrect, and I believe you owe Mr. Armstrong an apology, for personally slamming him. Being a Christian, I am sure you will do so. The one successful way this Registry is being curtailed is now through the Private Member's Bill, by a Conservative which fulfills their mandate to eliminate this very wasteful program. And it was supported by eight present sitting Liberal MP's and twelve NDP MP's.

I think it's misleading when a candidate,through omission of pertinent factual information(of which of course he knows better) portrays himself as an officer in the Canadian Forces to fluff his CV.
Hnatiuk can't be straight with the press on this matter,or neglected to mention the degree from Queen's University,or was a ship's officer and should have identified himself properly in the bio he filled out for this paper!--yet casts the proverbial first stone,in the direction of another candidates veracity.
There are no degrees of truth Mr.Hnatiuk.
