CAPE NORTH — A leisurely motorcycle trip around the Cabot Trail ended early Thursday afternoon for two men from Quebec now that one is missing in a particularly remote area of the Cape Breton Highlands.

Francois Brodeur, 55, was last seen at approximately 12:30 p.m. in an area stretching from North Mountain and Big Intervale to Cape North, Victoria County.

Brodeur was travelling south to Ingonish from Pleasant Bay with another rider, who was travelling on a motorcycle ahead of him.

Provincial RCMP spokesman Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said police patrolling the area haven’t had any luck spotting the man.

“We’ve also engaged the Cheticamp Ground Search and Rescue and it’s my understanding that a fixed-wing aircraft from the RCMP is joining the search,” he said, Thursday evening.

LeBlanc didn’t know how long the search would continue today, with daylight already beginning to fade.

Brodeur is being described as an experienced rider who stands six-feet-tall and weighs 240 pounds.

He has grey hair and was wearing a black motorcycle helmet, black jacket and either black rain pants or blue jeans at the time of his disappearance.

Police say he’s riding a purple coloured Harley Davidson motorcycle. He speaks little English.

Brodeur is not known to have any medical issues, police say.

The RCMP is asking anyone who was travelling in that area of the highlands Thursday and may have seen Brodeur to contact them at (902) 295-2350.

The investigation is continuing.

He probably failed to negotiate one of the many sharp turns in the area.He could be over one of the steep embankments still alive but in serious condition. Hope they find him soon.
