Halifax Stanfield International Airport – A flight destined for Europe that departed from New York was diverted to the Halifax Stanfield International Airport Tuesday evening because of an onboard fire.

An RCMP new release said that police responded to a call at approximately 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, regarding a fire onboard United Airlines Flight 999.

The fire, which started in the plane’s galley, was extinguished by crew using a fire extinguisher onboard the aircraft.

No one among the 293 passengers and 13 crew members were injured as a result of the fire.

Fire, EHS and RCMP were all dispatched when the plane was diverted to the Halifax airport. It is not known at this time if passengers will continue on to Europe or stay in Halifax.  The investigation is continuing.
