SALMON RIVER – A mini-home razed by fire in Salmon River has left at least one man homeless.

Salmon River fire chief Tim Johnson said no one is believed to have been at home when the blaze broke out about 6:30 p.m.

“It was a fully involved structure fire when we arrived,” he said.

“You could see flames here for a mile before we got here. Black flames.”

Brigades from Salmon River, Valley-Kemptown, Bible Hill, Hilden and Truro responded to the call.

Johnson said their biggest concern was “keeping it out of the trees and the power lines.”

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the mini-home, saving nearby buildings, however, Johnson said it is a total loss.

“Something like this you don’t really get a crack to see what went on,” said the chief, about a possible cause.

Canadian Red Cross was called to assist the man, who was on scene but declined comment to the Truro Daily News.

Traffic was blocked on the street for more than two hours while firefighters were on scene.
