TRURO - Learning about communities, seeking trivia facts and taking unique photos are all part of a summer scavenger hunt in Colchester County.
The Colchester Historeum is offering a photo scavenger hunt from June 30 to Aug. 21 that will take families to different places in Colchester County.
Jessica Lynds, a summer student at the museum who is
co-ordinating the scavenger hunt, said families choose when they do the event. They decide which community they'd like to explore and then pick up a list of event directions at the Young Street museum.
"They will have to seek facts and take photos based on the list of the community they are going to," said Lynds, adding each package has 15 items to complete.
Some examples include finding a lighthouse, pointing out the ‘spice girls' at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, finding trivia, and taking a photo of yourself with Anna Swan at a museum.
Once the items are gathered, families take them back to the Colchester Museum in the form of a scrapbook, poster or some other fun collection.
The event takes place until Aug. 21. The following day is judging day when the collections will be reviewed and prizes handed out for photos, facts and creativity.
In addition to having fun, Lynds said the scavenger hunt is educational and "sometimes it's hard to find things to do so this is something different."
The cost to participate is $2. For more information, call
