Garbage collection increased in Truro for the summer

TRURO - Green cart garbage collection in the Town of Truro is being offered on a weekly basis instead of biweekly for a short time.

Truro residents traditionally have alternate weeks for collection of their green cart garbage and recyclables. Until Sept. 12, the town will continue to collect recyclables biweekly but will gather green cart garbage weekly.

Amanda Stratton, with Colchester Waste Management, speaking on behalf of the operation, said there were a few reasons behind the summer change.

"People have an increase of yard waste and things like that in the summer so they are filling their carts before collection day. With this we hope not to have overruns" in the bins, Stratton said.

The intent is also to "cut down on smells" during the heat of summer and to "promote the use of the carts."

Stratton said the initiative started this week and "people are pleased. We are getting great feedback."

Residents are reminded to continue with their regularly scheduled garbage and recycling pick-up day. On the weeks that are dedicated to recyclables, both those as well as garbage will be gathered by different trucks. Green carts and recyclables should be curb-side on collection day by 7 a.m.

.... but if live outside the town you have to continue to deal with maggots and stink in the summer heat for 2 weeks at a time?

A group of us had a conversation regarding this matter a few days ago. This household is all for it and it is a splendid idea. So much looking forward to this summer service. Thank you.
