TRURO – A mid-summer concert will take place in Victoria Park next week.
The Truro Concert Band will perform a number of pieces on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the J. Arch Fraser Memorial Bandshell. If it’s raining, the venue will be re-scheduled for July 29.
The musicians will offer a variety of light concert music, including selections by Clare Grundman, James Ployhar and Ron MacKay. A special feature will be a performance of the Leroy Anderson favourite, Fiddle Faddle, arranged as a melodic percussion feature by John Ford. Soloists will be Doris McKinley and Jo-Ann Phillips.
Musicians from high school bands, post-secondary students and some members of the Cobequid and Glasgow New Horizons Bands will also participate.
The Truro Concert Band is one of Truro’s oldest organizations, and has members from throughout central Nova Scotia who have a wide range of ages and levels of experience. Through the years, leadership has come from conductors, including J. Arch Fraser, J. Chalmers Doane, Ron MacKay and Jack Sirulnikoff. The current musical director is Ken Henderson.
