BIBLE HILL – Officials in Bible Hill are trying to decide which sidewalks are in the worst condition in the village.
Sidewalk repair list debated in Bible Hill
There are limited funds in the village’s budget for sidewalk repair, about $40,000, and some projects would take all of that, and more.
During Tuesday night’s regular village monthly meeting, clerk Bob Christianson suggested the commission allow asphalt repairs to be done along Vimy Road from Pictou to College and on College from the day care centre to Main Street.
“It’s totally deteriorated,” Christianson said, of both areas.
One commissioner, Lois MacCormick, wasn’t convinced that’s where the money should go.
“There are still some (other) places that are really bad too,” MacCormick said.
She later told the Truro Daily News she’s had some complaints from residents about the condition of sidewalks in the Coupar Terrace and Oak Drive subdivision. Also of concern, she said, is from East Court Road to Village Line Avenue.
“A lot of people walk there. There are tilts and holes … they could cause an accident,” she said.
Every year village staff surveys the sidewalks and creates a sidewalk repair list. That is expected to be done within the next week.
In the meantime, commissioners will check out various village sidewalks on their own and will discuss their findings later this summer.
