Charlottetown police release name of stabbing victim

Police have released the name of the man stabbed to death in Charlottetown Friday night.

Kent David Gallant, 45, of Charlottetown died at the scene after police responded to the corner of St. Peters Road and Brows Lane.

The province’s coroner’s office transported the body to Halifax for a forensic autopsy Sunday that took about three hours to perform, says Chief Coroner Charles Trainor.

Cause of death was determined to be from a stab wound to the chest.

Police say they arrested a 17-year-old female at about 2:33 a.m. Saturday inside a perimeter that was set up around the crime scene.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a show cause hearing.

Police continue to investigate the case and are asking anyone with any information to contact Charlottetown Police at 629-4172.
