Laurie Skreslet, left, gives eight-year-old Jarred Fraser some pointers just before the youngster took to the Kohler Klimbing Wall at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre on Wednesday. The climber, writer and motivational speaker spent some time with local youth that are waiting to be paired up with a 'big' through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester.
The 'littles' spent some time on the Kohler Klimbing Wall at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre with Laurie Skreslet. Skreslet is the first Canadian to climb the summit of Mount Everest and was on hand for some belaying.
Skreslet, who is also an author, is one of three motivational speakers participating in the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council's 'No Limits' event Wednesday night, which also features Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
While belaying the youngsters, Skreslet gave them pointers on where to move and put their hands and feet, all while reassuring them that they were safe on the rope.
'No Limits' begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is in celebration of the council's 65th anniversary.
