TRURO – Applications are open for music and industry award nominations for the 2014 Music Nova Scotia Awards.
The deadline to apply is July 14 at 5 p.m.
There will be awards presented in 51 categories when Nova Scotia Music Week (NSMW) hits the area from Nov. 6 to 9. There are 30 categories for music award submissions, with 21 categories for industry awards.
To submit an application for an award nomination, visit nsmw.ca/nominate. The cost to submit an application is $30, and submissions can be paid for online through PayPal. Submissions can also be paid by debit or cash at the Music Nova Scotia office on Gottigen Street, or by Visa or MasterCard over the phone by contacting Lisa Stitt at (902) 423-0291.
All Nova Scotian artists who are members in good standing and have released recordings between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, are eligible to submit for the awards. There are seven categories that do not require a recording, including African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year, which is a new category.
Artists are not eligible to be nominated for the same recording two years in a row.
On the industry side of things, awards recognize the achievements and contributions of industry professionals in the province over the past year. The awards celebrate people and companies who are working to build a strong and vibrant Nova Scotia music industry. All members in good standing are eligible to submit.
A peer jury of esteemed local professionals with expertise in the music industry in Nova Scotia makes the final music and industry nominee selection.
The nominees in each category will be announced on Sept. 9. Voting for all awards will also open on this date. Only current members are eligible to nominate and vote. Update your Music Nova Scotia membership now - www.musicnovascotia.ca/join.
