Class of 1964 marking 50 years with reunion

TRURO – A group of seven people are looking to reconnect with long lost school friends.

The steering committee of the Truro Senior High School Class of 1964’s 50th reunion hosted a meeting on Monday. Those on the committee include, from left, David Cook, Margaret Langley, Bill Hay, Gay Pearson, Dave Allen, George Flemming and Melinda MacLean.

So much so that they’re planning a 50th reunion this summer of the 1964 graduating class of Truro Senior High School.

“We were a very congenial group,” said Gay Pearson, one of the organizers of the Aug. 22 to 24 event.

“We were the first of the baby boomers,” added Margaret Langley.

Close to 70 students graduated from the school in 1964, and the steering committee is trying to reach out to as many as possible.

“We’ve been able to contact roughly 40 of them, but unfortunately a number of our classmates are deceased,” said Dave Allen. “Some we’ve lost touch with but we are hoping to reach them.”

The steering committee has a reception planned for 7 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 22, with a dinner and social evening beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 23. All events are happening at the Holiday Inn in Truro.

“Many of the graduating class went from Primary through to Grade 12 together,” said Allen. “At the time, Truro had four elementary schools and one junior high school, so in Grade 7, we all came together and stayed together. But some went to elementary school together.”

To keep the graduating class up to date on the reunion plans, the steering committee has created a blog post at

“We want people to search their attics and basements, and find that memorabilia of their high school years and bring it along,” said Allen.

Any graduates of the 1964 class that haven’t yet been contacted can connect with either Dave Allen at, or Gay Pearson at
