TRURO – Truro taxpayers are to contribute $2,500 towards this year’s Shakespeare in the Park production in Victoria Park.

“This is the type of thing that can be done in small communities,” area MLA Lenore Zann said, in making the request to town council on Monday for the Romeo and Juliet production. Colchester County Council has also received a similar request to provide funding to help advertise this year’s event, which is hosted by the Truro Theatre Society and directed by Zann. The play is scheduled for July 4.

Zann had anticipated last year’s production would attract about 80 audience members for each of the two nights it was held, but about 450 people turned out per show.

Council approved the funding request.

Odd that this request wasn't tossed to "budget committee" as per usual. More worthy projects are generally put off. Any attention Miss Zann can get for her leadership bid is helpful to her.
