TRURO – The Colchester East Hants Hospice Society, in partnership with the Colchester East Hants Health Authority, is hosting an Evening of Remembrance on Thursday, June 19t, 7 p.m. The event will take place in Great Village at Lowland Gardens.
Family and friends are welcome to join hospice as they share readings, music and remembrance. Participants are encourage to bring a photo of a loved one, or another item of significance, as a way of honouring them during the evening’s memorial. A small reception will follow.
Hospice offers two or more Evenings of Remembrance each year. There is often a selection of readings and music, and the program lasts approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Time to share in refreshments and casual conversation follows. The Evening of Remembrance is not religious in nature, but instead simply focuses on offering people an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died.
The period immediately following the death of a loved one can be overwhelming, and many often feel they missed out on the benefits of the funeral ritual. Attending an Evening of Remembrance later in the year can provide that ritual and carve out a special time for family and/or the community to come together and remember. The evenings are open to the general public, and are directly offered to those who have experienced the death of a loved one on the Colchester East Hants Palliative Care Program.
