Cliffs, rocks, boat tagged with racist, homophobic slogans monument toppled
Vandals strike at Delaps Cove
Annapolis County Recreation Manager Debra Ryan is wondering why somebody would vandalize a wilderness trail. So are hikers who love Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail on Annapolis County’s Fundy shore.
The county recreation staff recently learned about vandalism at Bohaker Trail and Cove at the Delaps Cove wilderness Trail.
The cliffs at the falls area have been spray painted with racist and homophobic slogans including “white power” and “no homo.” As well, the Meier Point monument has been toppled and the interpretive signs taken down and carried to other locations.
“The Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail is a destination for many visitors from Annapolis County and throughout the world,” said Ryan. “The vandalism is appalling to see and so disrespectful.”
She said the RCMP has been contacted.
Meier Point was opened in 2012 on landed donated to the county and the monument was placed there at that time.
“We will be sending staff over to fix the vandalism and if there are folks that would like to be help please let us know,” Ryan said.
She said if people would like to be friends of Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail and help keep a watchful eye on it, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or 532-3139.
