TRURO – After 14 years serving as Truro’s top administrator CAO Jim Langille is getting set to ride off into the sunset of retirement.

“I have a lot of things that I want to do around the house and a couple of hobbies that will take up all of my time,” Langille said, of when he wraps up his final work day at the end of October.

One of those hobbies entails riding his 2007 Harley Davidson and while the pursuit of that pleasure may be weather dependent, Langille said he will also be busy with various “woodworking” duties around his Truro home.

Langille, 60, who grew up in Westville, assumed the role of Truro’s CAO in August of 2000 after being employed for 18 years with the Town of New Glasgow, first as deputy clerk and then for the latter 13 years as clerk.

“It was a step up,” he said, of the role change to Truro’s CAO. “It was a challenge that didn’t exist for me in my employment in New Glasgow.”

Looking back on his years with the Hubtown, Langille said he is pleased to be leaving his post knowing such projects as the Rath Eastlink Community Centre and a new Public Works building have been completed and that construction of the new library building is underway.

“I think the major accomplishments have been to satisfy the needs of the municipality regarding its major structures,” he said, of his personal role in seeing those projects to fruition.

“Certainly establishing a budget process, establishing a level of service that the community seems to appreciate and doing that in a way that’s as economical as possible,” he said.

The town has hired a firm to undertake a selection process for a new CAO and after the initial list is narrowed down to about four or five, Langille said council would make a final decision on his replacement.
