TRURO - Mid Valley Construction has been named as the successful bidder to construct the third phase of the Brookfield sidewalk project.

The Kingston company provided the lowest of six bids received by the Municipality of Colchester.

The sidewalk design calls for 700 metres of new sidewalk along Highway 289, from the bridge on the Little River to Upper Brookfield Road.

The total cost for the project, including materials testing, municipal staff time and design costs is estimated at $575,122 plus contingencies.

The bids, shown from lowest to highest, follow:

Mid Valley Construction - $534,225

Brycon Construction - $596,290

S.W. Weeks - $629,557

Dexter Construction - $729,870

Cumberland Paving - $815,170

Kel-Greg - $867,435

Colchester County Council was told by public works director Michelle Newell that the work should be completed before students return to school in September following their summer break.
