TRURO – A local church is spearheading a special project to help others in need.
Immanuel Baptist Church, located on Young Street in Truro, will present Love Truro on May 31. The initiative brings volunteers from that church, as well as others in the community, together to
“take a day to spread random acts of kindness and engage with and bless the community,” said Carla Shaw, a member of Immanuel Baptist and one of the event co-ordinators.
As of Friday, Shaw anticipated there would be 60 volunteers for the project and the church has “put an invitation to other churches” to participate as well.
Those who get involved will gather at Immanuel Baptist at 9 a.m. on May 31 and divide into teams. The groups will then spend three hours doing various projects, without charge, throughout the town to help those in need, including doing street cleaning, preparing meals, visiting seniors homes, helping with a community car wash, yard cleanup and more.
Shaw said there is a clear message being spread with Love Truro.
“The message is we care. We are spreading God’s love … and we love our community. Sometimes churches get the stigma that we are solely (operating) within our walls and we are not, we are doing much more,” she said.
More volunteers are welcome. To participate, arrive at the church for 9 a.m. on the event day. For more information, log onto the Love Truro 2014 Facebook page.
