TRURO – A Ford Explorer dressed like a Shriner’s Fez will roll into town on Thursday

The Exceptional Care Odyssey – a coast-to-coast car trip – is making its way into the Town of Truro and will feature a free meet and greet at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

The Odyssey kicked off on May 13 and will travel 17,000 kilometres while visiting 55 cities and towns throughout Canada and the United States. The trip is to celebrate the construction of a new Canada Shriners Hospital, which provides orthopedic care to children from across Canada, the northeastern United States and around the world. The hospital employs bone specialists treating infants, children and teenagers for conditions like scoliosis, brittle bone disease, club feet and hip dysplasia.

The public is invited to attend the gathering at the centre on Abenaki Street from 6 t0 7 p.m. Bible Hill is home to one Shrine club – the Central Shrine Club at 143 Pictou Rd.

The car trip, featuring a tassel and all on the Explorer, is expected to end in Victoria, B.C., on July 17.

Although the Shriners Hospital is located in Montreal (with the new one set to open in 2015), Shriners have strong ties with the IWK Health Centre, with whom they partner to ensure patients receive the highest quality care available close to home when possible.
