TRURO – A $500 contribution has been approved in principle by Colchester County council to help fund a Tourism Destination Assessment for the Central Nova Tourist Association.
The assessment, which is projected to cost $40,000, is to be undertaken by Roger Brooks, a recognized expert in the field of tourism, community branding, downtown development and destination marketing.
Information contained in the CNTA funding request indicates that this region is the only one in the province that has yet to benefit from an assessment by Brooks.
One of the most powerful aspects of a Brooks assessment, the information to council said, is the fresh, objective viewpoint and thorough review of the region as provided through the eyes of a first-time visitor.
Council’s decision is to receive final approval at its next meeting.
The Town of Truro is providing $1,400 towards the assessment while the communities of Stewiacke and Millbrook are each contributing $500.
The Municipality of East Hants is providing $2,000 with ACOA and the Nova Scotia Tourism Association each contributing $17,550.
