TRURO – A young Truro boy is grateful for the help of a Good Samaritan who helped re-unite him with a prized possession.

Wednesday night as Jordan Graham began to settle down at bedtime, he made a shocking discovery that his stuffed bear “Teddy,” was missing.

“We had mass panic in our house,” said Jordan‘s mom Natalie Dickson. “We searched the house, the yard.”

Unable to turn up the coveted stuffed animal, Dickson recruited friends and family to aid in the search all over downtown Truro.

The bear had accompanied five-year-old Jordan during his walk from home on MacLean Street to Lorne Street where he attends pre-school, then ended up in the backseat of a tandem stroller with his 17-month-old brother, while his three-year-old sister rode in the front.

Dickson said the young toddler most likely tossed his bother’s bear out of the stroller during the morning journey home.

Members of the adhoc search committee spent hours searching along roads and sidewalks, green spaces and thrift shops in the area but were not able to find the missing bear.

“He got him for his first Christmas and he has had him ever since,” said Natalie, about the bear. “He sleeps with him and takes him everywhere he goes.”

After a few long hours of waiting for the return of his bear, Jordon cried himself to sleep, with his mom promising to continue the search Thursday morning.

While walking past Truro Police Service on Prince Street she took a chance that someone may have turned the well-worn bear into police.

“There he was sitting on their little cabinet when I came in, I was almost crying,” said the relieved mom. Jordon was happily giving bear hugs to his toy on Thursday afternoon and said he would say “thank you” to the person who helped the bear find its way home.

Dickson said the officers that returned the bear were unable to provide the kind stranger’s name.

“I just want to say, ‘thank you.’ Not many people would have thought for a second to take a ratty, old bear off the side of the road and take it to the police station.”

What a great heart warming story. Hats off to the thoughtful person who took the toy to the police station.
