TRURO – The Colchester East Hants Health Authority is celebrating Quality Week.
Quality Week gives the authority a chance to increase exposure and awareness of the quality health care in the district. The week celebrates and recognizes the power everyone has to influence quality and safety, as well as how efforts shape health and overall patient and client experiences.
This year, Quality Week runs from May 13 to 15, and has a theme of ‘Your Health – Everything is Connected,’ which recognizes how meaningful connections are to patients’ and clients’ journeys.
Quality Week will kick off with a Reach for the Top challenge on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the main entrance of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Staff, physicians and community partners will participate in a lighthearted Reach for the Top game show style challenge that will test their knowledge of healthy living and promote healthy lifestyles.
An informative panel and discussion will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Willow Room at the health centre. It will focus on healthy living and community support. Light refreshments will be served.
Dr. Masis Perk, and internal medicine specialist, will host a talk titled ‘Your Heart: Keeping it Healthy’ beginning at 7 p.m., while seniors clinic manager Mark Scales will talk about ‘The seniors clinic: how can they help me/my family?’ at 7:30 p.m. ‘Continuing care: who are we and what do we do?’ will begin at 8 p.m. with Barb Goad, the director of continuing care.
To attend the Tuesday evening session, RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Information will be on display at various locations during Quality Week, including at the health centre, the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche and the Lloyd E. Matheson Centre in Elmsdale. Students in Grades four to six in the district participated in a colouring contest, and submissions will be judged during Quality Week.
A community outreach and interactive day, featuring health information displays, free health screenings, giveaways and more, will run Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, and 1 to 3 p.m. on the main level at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
A Nurses Week celebration awards and recognition day for health authority staff, physicians and volunteers will be held on Wednesday at the centre, with lunch and an awards ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a staff event at 8 p.m.
