Bluefield teams win at Voye tournament

SUMMERSIDE – The Bluefield Bobcats won their first games in the 18th annual David Voye Memorial rugby tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Bluefield girls edged Nova Scotia’s Hants East 12-10 while the boys shut out Lockview from Fall River, N.S., 21-0. In the other 3 p.m. game, the Cobequid girls from Truro doubled Horton High School from Wolfville 10-5 in an all-Nova Scotia clash.

Catherine MacCallum and Jenna Holmes each scored a try for Bluefield. Ashley Stead added a convert.

Kaitlyn Norman and Brooklyn Greek had trys for Hants East.

In the boys’ game, Mike Chrzaszcz had a three-try effort to ignite the Bobcats’ offence. Zack Wright kicked all three converts.

Karen Hu and Autumn Smiley each scored a try for Cobequid. Breanna Cook had Horton’s lone score.

The Hampshire, P.E.I.-based Bluefield teams are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m., with the boys taking on Hants East and the girls facing Avon View.

Three Oaks Senior High School is hosting the 23-team senior AAA-calibre tournament, which features 12 boys and 11 girls’ teams.
