TRURO – A grant request to the Town of Truro to help promote the sale of real Christmas trees has been denied.

A letter from Bill Smith of the Cobequid Christmas Tree Producers Association was read at Monday’s Truro town council meeting. The letter included a grant request of $1,000 from the town to assist the association’s promotion campaign.

It’s a campaign for the use of real, local trees, said Smith in the letter, adding the financial assistance would help with newspaper ads and other forms of promotion province-wide.

Council refused the request.

“It’s a great campaign but with all the requests we have coming in …,” it’s difficult to say yes, said Coun. Tom Chisholm.

“I consider it a rural issue … I think it should be sent to Colchester County,” Chisholm added.
