Mi’kmaw artist to host Atlantic Book Award meet-and-greet

TRURO HEIGHTS – A Mi’kmaw artist from the Pictou Landing Mi’kmaw Band is hosting a meet-the-author night at the Glooscap Heritage Centre.

The event, which runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on May 14, is part of the Atlantic Book Awards and Festival running until May 21.

Leonard Paul, illustrator of ‘Pisim Finds Her Miskanow,’ has been nominated for the Lillian Shepherd Award for Excellence in Illustration. He will give a presentation at the meet-the-author night, as well as a demonstration of his work.

Also participating in events for the awards and festival is Truro native Jan L. Coates, who is shortlisted for the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Children’s Literature for her latest publication, The Power of Harmony.

Coates will read from her book at the Wolfville Memorial Library on May 14 at 6 p.m., followed by a presentation of the book to students at the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library in Halifax at 10:15 a.m. on May 15.

The awards will be presented during a ceremony in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on May 21 at 7 p.m.
