New auditor general named for Nova Scotia

Canadian Press - Michael Pickup, who has worked in the federal auditor general's office for more than 20 years, has been named the province's new auditor general.

Pickup's appointment takes effect July 2 and lasts 10 years. He takes over for Jacques Lapointe, who retired at the end of January.

Pickup has served as the audit principal for the federal Office of the Auditor General for the last 24 years, leading financial and performance audits.

He was chosen by a panel that included former provincial auditor general Roy Salmon and the dean of the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary's University.

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Pickup is a graduate of Acadia University in Wolfville.
