One man in custody from incident; vehicle determined to be stolen

TRURO – One man is in custody and another is being sought after fleeing from police following a vehicle crash on King Street on Sunday.

Truro Police Service news

Truro Police Service Cpl. Monte Emery said officers observed a vehicle failing to stop at a couple of stop signs just after 9 a.m.

“They evaded police and crashed the vehicle in the 300 area of King Street at approximately 9:15 a.m.,” said Emery, adding the two suspects took off on foot after crashing into a driveway marker made out of brick.

The department deployed its K-9 team of Const. Justin Russell and Onyx, and assistance came from the Colchester RCMP in the foot chase.

Roughly six hours later, one suspect was apprehended and charges are pending.

“One male is in custody involving the vehicle incident, a vehicle which was determined to have been stolen from the Cape Breton area,” said Emery. “He was apprehended at a residence here in town.”

The second suspect, possibly in his late teens, is still being sought.

“The only description we have of the second suspect is that he was wearing a camouflage jacket with a hood.”

The second suspect was last seen at approximately 10:43 a.m. in the area of Crescent Drive and Robie Street.

“The track resumed from there, but we haven’t located him yet,” said Emery.

The police chased after the suspects in the King Street area, including Kaulback Street, and in and around the old hospital.

“We couldn’t say too much about where from there,” he added.

Charges are pending against the man in his early 20s, however the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on the incident, or the identity or whereabouts of the second suspect, is asked to contact the Truro Police Service at 895-5351.
