TRURO – At least one youth is facing a number of charges related to an incident that began in Victoria Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Young offenders facing weapons, flight charges in Truro
According to Truro Police Service’s Const. Robert-John Hunka, police received word of “a possible fight in progress” at the park at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
When police arrived, “one male was at large and took off running in the park,” Hunka told the Truro Daily News Tuesday night.
Hunka said the youth “attempted to discard” an eight inch bladed hunting knife by throwing it down to the ground, but the act was witnessed by police.
Six uniformed police officers were involved in the chase, and were assisted by the K-9 unit. It took about half an hour to locate the youth, who was apprehended on Park Road, near the park, said Hunka.
He said a vehicle suspected to be involved was also found and searched, which led to the location of a shotgun inside the vehicle.
Three individuals were arrested – a 17-year-old male from Wallace, and a 20-year-old male and 17-year-old female from Upper Tantallon.
The Wallace teen is charged with breaching a recognizance and weapons offences, and was to appear in court in Truro on Wednesday.
The female was released from police custody, and the 20-year-old was held pending further investigation.
