TRURO - Flagship Construction of North River has been awarded the tender for the mechanical/electrical portions of Colchester County's new compost facility.
Only two companies bid for the project, with Flagship offering the lowest tender at $731,943.54.
The second bid by Ainsworth came in at $955,148.
The entire project when complete is expected to cost $6.3 million plus contingencies. The municipality had budgeted $6.9 million for the facility.
The facility has been designed to handle 10,000 tonnes of compost per year for green cart waste and will include a covered front end processing area, two, covered secondary treatment buildings and an open-air curing pad.
The new compost site will replace a current in-vessel composting system and will also serve as a handling facility for biosolids generated at the Central Colchester Wastewater Treatment Plant.
