BIBLE HILL – A local politician is hoping roadwork in  Bible Hill will be made a priority with the help of the village.

Immediate sidewalk work debated for Bible Hill streets

A letter from Truro-Bible Hill MLA Lenore Zann was read at a recent Village of Bible Hill committee meeting stating her intention to encourage the Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Department to make roadwork for Saywood Drive and Regency Point Drive a priority in 2015.  Zann wanted to know if the village would agree to do sidewalk work from the intersection of Saywood and Dorset Drive to Regency Point and from Regency Point at the Saywood intersection to the Old Courthouse Branch Road in conjunction with the roadwork.

Village commissioners said it’s not that easy.

“It’s very difficult for us to say yes when we are just approving a budget now for the upcoming year,” said village clerk Bob Christianson.

He did say, however, the project is second on the village’s priority list, after upgrades along Pictou Road.

“We will start the engineer design (phase) for the (Saywood) project this year,” added Christianson.

He cautioned it’s too early to confirm specifics, especially with unknown projects potentially arising in the near future. One of those possible projects could be construction of sidewalks for a new elementary school destined to replace East Court Road and Bible Hill Central elementary schools.

Commissioner Dale McLeod said committing to a sidewalk for Saywood and Regency Point at this time may send the wrong message to some village residents.

“If we change plans, then it could open the door for people down the road who want changes,” to other projects, said McLeod.

“It may (cause) some discomfort for residents but it could take two years,” to do that area, added village chairman Tom Burke, adding it all comes down to financial assistance.
