SHUBENACDIE – Anyone looking to bone up on their fishing skills might want to head out to the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the park’s sport fish development officer, Andrew Lowles, is offering a free program on the safe and proper way to fish as part of celebrations for National Wildlife Week.

Called Learn To Fish, the program is jointly sponsored by the departments of Natural Resources and Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The free program will begin with a 90-minute presentation, followed by fishing in the park's pond. The program will wrap up with a fish-cleaning demonstration and cooking the catch.

Participants should bring outdoor clothes, rubber boots, hat, insect repellent and sunblock.

Up to 30 people can attend each day and children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Call 758-5316 or e-mail legacycentre@gov.ns.ca to register.
