Truro native Jan Coates has a new book on the market – The Power of Harmony. The Wolfville resident features much of herself in the main character, Jenn, in the book, which is set in 1968 in Springhill.
Jan Coates has been nominated for the Ann Connor Brimer Award for children’s literature with her latest publication, The Power of Harmony.
The book started as a short story and took Coates two years to write. It’s about a young girl wanting to be a singer and who idolizes her hometown hero, Anne Murray. The book, written from the perspective of a 10-year-old girl, is set in Springhill in 1968.
The Power of Harmony is up against Nix Minus One by Jill MacLean and Meghan Marentette’s The Stowaways.
The 2014 Atlantic Book Awards and Festival runs May 14 to 21 with free literary events throughout the Atlantic region. The gala awards ceremony is May 21 in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
