TRURO – This year’s home show might be a little bit more crowded, thanks to an increase in the number of exhibitors.

The 2014 Colchester County Home Show is set for the Rath Eastlink Community Centre from April 11 to 13. Last year, pictured, was the first year to be held inside the new centre and close to 5,000 people attended the event. This year will see almost 90 exhibitors on display.
Scott Sprague, home show manager with Master Promotions, said visitors to the show this year will see roughly 90 exhibitors.
“We had a highly successful event last year at the new location, and I think word spread on that,” said Sprague. “There are some companies from previous years that haven’t exhibited lately that are now back in the fold, and we are seeing some companies from outside of the area that want to pick up some business in Colchester County that have signed up.”
The 21st annual Colchester County Home Show is scheduled for April 11 to 13 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. It’s the second year the show is being hosted in the centre.
A couple of new exhibitors this year that Sprague said are major exhibitors include Pioneer Fuels and HubCraft Timber Mart.
“And we will have Dairy Farmers of Canada here with a large booth. They’ll be hosting some cheese seminars and demonstrations, as well as testing and talking about pairings,” said Sprague.
With winter seeming to drag on for most of the province, Sprague said he’s hoping to see a large turnout, much like the 5,000 people that were through the doors last year.
“I think too with the weather, it’s not like people can go outside and pick up the rake to start working,” he said. “I think a lot of people are wanting to get out of the house and forget about the weather, and think about new projects for the spring.”
Visitors will find all the products that make a house a home at this year’s show, which brings together the leaders of the homebuilding, renovation and related industries under one roof to help consumers make informed decisions about their home-based projects.
Door prizes will be given away during the event, including a Kozy Heat Northern lights Fire Table courtesy of L.L. Masonry, Stoves and Fireplaces, a windmill outdoor fire pit courtesy of Re/Max and Shaw Brick, and a $500 gift certificate from Harris Home Hardware or a Peter Kohler entrance system.
On Saturday, weather permitting, L.L. Masonry, Stoves and Fireplaces will host a barbecue demonstration and samples with the Big Green Egg.
The home show opens on April 11 at 4 p.m., running until 9 p.m. Exhibitors will be open on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and wrapping up on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youth aged 10 to 16. Children under 10 are admitted free.
