TRURO – A series of workshops focusing on educating local volunteers in non-profit organizations is about to take place in Truro.

The Colchester Volunteer Network will host five workshops from April to May, all at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre. The first one is April 2 between 1:30 and 4:30 and has a theme of ‘funds and grants.’ The topic will cover learning about local grant opportunities, basic grant writing skills and developing a fund plan.

Luanne Schenkels, a member of the Colchester Volunteer Network, told the Truro Daily News Catherine Yuill, with Dalhousie Agricultural College in Bible Hill, will be the guest speaker.

Schenkels said the purpose of the workshops is to “support organizations with volunteers to give them education to make them stronger.”

According to Schenkels, workshop topics were identified by local non-profit organizations, which pinpointed themes they’d like more information on.

Another special event will occur in the fall that will focus on recruitment.

Space is limited for the upcoming workshop and signing up in advance is preferable to the organizers. To get involved, call 895-9313 or email coordinator@colchesterunityway.ca

Other upcoming workshops include an introduction to social media, strategies and effective use of social media, volunteer screening and strategic planning for non-profit organizations.
