TRURO - The following are some of the events taking place throughout the county Friday to Sunday.

Colchester County activities for the last weekend of March

Stuffed chicken breast supper

MARCH 28 – Debert legion. 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Supper for $10 includes main meal, dessert, tea or coffee. Everyone welcome.

Lenten chowder luncheon

MARCH 28 – Immaculate Conception Church hall. 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Haddock or corn chowder, rolls, dessert. Haddock chowder: $8; corn chowder: $7; children under five get in for free. Tickets available at the door. Takeout available.

Fish and chips

MARCH 28 – Royal Canadian Legion, Brunswick Street, Truro. 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out. $8.

Old-time dance

MARCH 28 – Douglas Street Recreation Centre. Every Friday in March. 7:30 p.m. Shared lunch, door prize. Sponsored by the Y Senior Citizens Group. Open to ages 50 and older. Admission: $5.

Open Door community prayer

MARCH 28 – First Baptist Church’s sanctuary, Prince Street, Truro. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Offering personal prayer to the community. Wheelchair accessible.


MARCH 28 – St. Andrew’s United Church, Stewaicke. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu of chili, soup, sandwiches, biscuits, desserts, tea and coffee. $8 per person. Wheelchair accessible. Takeouts available by calling 639-2495.

North Shore dart challenge

MARCH 29 – Royal Canadian Legion, Tatamagouche. 10 a.m. Canteen and bar services. Four person team for $40. Call 657-3228 or 657-2172 for more information.

Variety show

MARCH 29 – Middle Stewiacke Recreation Centre. 7 p.m. Admission, $5 or $15 for a family. 50/50 draw and canteen available.

Chowder luncheon

MARCH 29 – Holy Trinity Hall, Maitland. 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Choice of chowder or chili. Adults, $10; children, $5. Proceeds for the Parish of Maitland.

Roast beef dinner

MARCH 29 – St. James United Church, 8747 Hwy. 224, Upper Musquodoboit. 4 to 6 p.m. Adults, $12; children 12 and younger, $6; children five and younger get in for free. Takeouts available. Wheelchair accessible.

Earltown Maple Syrup Festival

MARCH 29 – 35th anniversary. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Earltown Community Centre, Hwy. 311. For more information, call Karen at 657-0110 or Darlene at 657-2530.

Pancake breakfast

MARCH 29 – Truro and District Lions Club, 1100 Prince St., Truro. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, beans, bacon, sausage, toast, refreshments. Adults, $8; children 12 and younger, $6; five and younger get in for free. Maple products for sale. Proceeds for the Colchester Food Bank.

Cantab-elation: Joyfully Making Music Together

MARCH 29 – First United Church, Truro. 3 p.m. Featuring Cantabile Singers and Cantabile Boys Choir and guests. Tickets are $17; $5 student rate: children 12 and younger get in free. Tickets at MacQuarries on the Esplanade, from choir members and at the door.

Card party

MARCH 29 – Valley United Church. 7 p.m. Lunch and prizes. Admission: $5.

Official opening

MARCH 29 – Le Centre Communautaire Francophone of Truro. 50 Aberdeen St., Truro. 2 p.m. Show and sale of crafts and art by Francophone artists, live music: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chase the ace

MARCH 29 – Engine Room Pub, Truro. 6 to 8 p.m. Weekly winner and chance to draw the ace of spades for at least $2,100.

Pancake, maple syrup brunch

MARCH 30 – North River fire hall. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local entertainment. Adults, $10; seniors, $9; five to 12 years old, $5; children younger than five get in for free. Proceeds to the fire brigade.

Colchester SPCA winter carnival

MARCH 30 – Douglas Street Recreation Centre. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bake sale, carnival games, balloon animals, silent auction.

Music and dance

MARCH 30 – Wentworth Recreation Centre. 1:30 p.m. Shared lunch. Donation at the door. 

Bottle drive

MARCH 30 – Debert legion. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bottles can be dropped off at the legion or they can be picked up by calling 662-2454. Leave a message at that number.

Celebration service

MARCH 30 – Nazarene Church. 6 p.m. Shirley, Lisa and Wayne sharing Carter Family Gospel. Other performers as well. Lunch to follow. Free-will offering.
