TRURO - Colchester RCMP is reminding residents to be wary of phone calls asking for credit card information.

The RCMP has received reports of a phone scam in which the caller identifies him or herself as a representative of the Canadian Police Association. The caller then asks for donations for an anti-bullying program. Individuals are asked to provide their credit card number over the phone in order to process the donation.

RCMP remind people legitimate organizations would not request credit card information over the phone. If you receive any phone calls similar to this, do not participate, never provide personal information and contact your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center.

Organizations: RCMP, Canadian Police Association, Canadian Anti-Fraud Center

Glad you brought this up. I've read several instances of this scam at Callercenter.com and I think it's becoming prevalent nowadays. It's surprising that the calls originate from phone numbers with different area codes.
