Police say two stabbed after disturbance breaks out at Dartmouth jail

DARTMOUTH - Police in Halifax were called to a disturbance at the Central Nova Correctional Facility in Burnside on Monday afternoon that saw two inmates stabbed.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages said police were called to the jail around 4 p.m. regarding a disturbance involving about 20 people.

In an update issued by police on Monday night, they say officers determined that during the disturbance two people suffered stab wounds from what is being described as ‘improvised weapons.’

A 39-year-old man was taken to the Dartmouth General Hospital where he was treated and released, while a 24-year-old man was treated on scene.

Police say charges are expected to be laid.
