VALLEY – A garage was reduced to rubble by fire on Sunday.
Nigel Leggett, chief of the Valley-Kemptown District Fire Brigade, said the call came in at 26 Old Greenfield Branch Rd., Valley, just a few minutes after 5 p.m.
“It was fully involved,” Leggett said about the 50-foot by 40-foot garage. “I don’t believe the building was insured but the fire marshal has been called.”
Leggett said he wasn’t sure if the fire marshal would visit the scene, as “they typically don’t when there is no insurance unless it’s suspicious.”
With 24 members of the Valley-Kemptown responding to the blaze, mutual aid came from Bible Hill Fire Brigade, Salmon River and District Volunteer Fire Brigade and North River and District Fire Brigade. Special Hazards also responded for a small oil spill.
“The cause right now is undetermined because there’s not enough left to try to find out,” said Leggett. “There was a lot of stuff stored in there.”
The chief said a residence about 50 feet away was unharmed.
