STEWIACKE – About 2,500 Nova Scotia Power customers here and in surrounding communities had their power restored roughly 90 minutes after it went dark Thursday morning.
Neera Ritcey, manager of external relations for the power company, said customers lost power at around 6:30 a.m.
“Our crews were doing some maintenance work in the area,” she wrote in an email responding to a query about the outage. “While that work was taking place, we experienced a fault as power was being switched from one line to another in order to do the maintenance work.”
She said faults, such as the one that occurred, happen “rarely” during maintenance work.
“But the system is designed to protect itself in the event a fault is experienced. And that is why the fault occurred,” she wrote.
Crews responded to the outage and were able to restore power to all customers at about 7:55 a.m.
