Woman who stole from N.S. Native Council receives conditional sentence

TRURO – A Middle Stewiacke woman who defrauded the Nova Scotia Native Council of more than $23,000 was handed a conditional sentence of just over two years in provincial court on Wednesday.

Michelle Lynne Wright, 22, of 15 Victoria St., Apt. C, received a conditional sentence of 729 days, of which the first 273 days must be served under 24/7 house arrest.

Wright was also ordered to make restitution to the native council in the amount of $23,490.70, was given a victim surcharge fine of $100 and ordered to take mental health counselling as directed.

Further charges of using forged documents (cheques) and theft by stealing cheques from the native council were withdrawn by the Crown.
