MASSTOWN NOTEbook, by Chris Urquhart
Truro Presbyterial UCW held its annual meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at St. Andrewâs United Church in Truro.
About 85 ladies attended this wonderful meeting. In the morning we viewed the DVD Poor No More, a must see for all. It showed us how much large corporations channel their funds to those at the top while ignoring the needs of their minimum wage earners. How this can be changed is something that needs a lot of discussion.
In the afternoon a memorial service was held honoring all those UCW ladies who passed away in 2013. Then our new executive was installed by Maritime Conference UCW president Anna Peters. The new executive includes: Past-president Katherine Cameron, president Joanna LeBlanc, treasurer Marion Blackmore and upcoming treasurer Gwen Watson, secretary Christine Urquhart, corresponding secretary Audrey Selkirk.
Our area vice-presidents are Mildred Fulton, Eileen Eaton, Joyce Canning, Thelma Redmond, Jane Parker, Audrey Selkirk and Sharon Whiteway. Other offices are: Berwick Camp, Anne Lake, press and publicity Chris Urquhart; Church in Action Doris McCallum; stewardship, Joanna LeBlanc; supply and welfare, Dora Vaughan; literature and archives, Noreen Stark; and MacLennan Camp, Toni MacDonald. Past-president Katherine Cameron was thanked for all her hard work during her term as president. The day ended with a short business meeting. Thank you to St. Andrewâs United Church for hosting this event.
Here in Masstown coffee parties are in full swing. There will be a St. Patrickâs Day coffee party on March 12 at 2 p.m. and another coffee party on March 26 at 2 p.m. There is always a bake table and a playroom for the children at these events and if you enjoy quilting, come early. Our ladies quilt each week on Mondays but also on coffee party days. If you donât know how to quilt they will teach you. I hear they have a cup of tea on Mondays as well.
Masstown United Church is hosting a baked beans and brown bread take-out supper on March 15. The cost is $10 for a litre of beans and loaf of bread. Tickets are being sold in advance. To get yours, call Irene Gratto 662-2863. Pick up for the beans will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
